Baltic Safety Products are now manufacturing an adjustable Jackstay made from strong 25mm polyester webbing. With a maximum length of 12m and Stainless Steel buckles and shackles the Jackstay is tested to take a load of more than 2000kg. The Jackstay has a sewn loop at one end and an adjuster at the other end. Both ends should be attached to strong points that together will take in excess of 2 tonnes. Adjustment of the jackstay length is made by moving the webbing through the stainless steel ladder. It is important to keep the jackstay stored away from direct sunlight in a well ventilated space when not in use to prevent Ultra Violet degradation. It is also important to check that the strong points must not have any corners or sharp edges that may abrade or cut the webbing. Established for over 30 years with their headquarters in Älgarås, Sweden, Baltic Lifejackets have now become the largest manufacturers of lifejackets and buoyancy aids in Europe. They have worldwide representation through its distributor network and a full presentation of all Baltic products can be seen at www.baltic.se

The Baltic Rescue is the ultimate in rescue performance jackets. The jacket combines the advantages of a foam buoyancy aid with an inflatable lifejacket. The combination of the two means that 77N of buoyancy comes from the supersoft buoyancy material and 185N from an inflatable twin chamber lung, together giving a total buoyancy of 262N. The inflatable twin chambers are available as manual/ automatic or automatic/ automatic. All automatic chambers have manual backup. The Rescue is tested and approved to the M.E.D. / SOLAS, EN396, EN12402, EN1095/EN ISO 12401, standards and has many essential features making it an ideal choice for high speed rescue boats and life boats. The Baltic Rescue jacket is packed with many features to ensure the ultimate safety for the wearer as well as ensuring it is as practical as possible to cope with a number of situations: An oval shaped inflation/ rapid deflation hose is fitted. It is flexible and low profile to prevent the jacket from becoming too cumbersome. Should the wearer need to quickly deflate the lifejacket section the jacket is fitted with a quick release dump deflation valve. The specialist mouth piece enables rapid re-inflation. The status of the automatic inflator can be checked easily and quickly with a status indicator window on the right hand side of the jacket. The jacket is fitted with an adjustable holder for a VHF or communications radio, as well as an adjustable holder which can be used for an Epirb. A clear window on the left side allows space for an ID card and a clip which can be used for an emergency light holder. There is also an attachment for a rescue knife on the belt and a D-ring for attaching emergency switch lanyards to. The rear of the jacket has 3 large detachable Velcro strips covered in reflective material. For emergency services these can be replaced with ID strips where appropriate. The collar of the jacket contains a spray hood which fits over most standard crash helmets and is fitted with Baltic’s unique face clearance hoop. The adjustable safety harness is approved to EN1095 and has a non magnetic stainless steel buckle. Adjustable thigh straps keep the jacket in place and stop it from riding up when worn. There is a lifting loop that is attached to the safety harness. This is accessible at the back of the neck for easy access. The Baltic Rescue comes in 1 size to fit all from 40 – 150kg and has a 2 year guarantee.

The new Baltic Argus takes the guess work out of checking if a lifejacket is charged and ready to go. Styled on the same successful design as the Baltic Winner the Argus comes with a neat inspection window revealing a status indicator. The two indicator bars show if either the automatic head or the CO2 cylinders have been used and therefore if anything needs replacing. The top line is for the automatic cylinder and the second line for the CO2. A red line shows there is a problem with the jacket and needs replacing and two green bars indicates that it is safe to use. The jacket uses zip burst technology which makes the jacket more robust and has greater longevity than traditional Velcro closures. Two quick openings in the cover zip closures allow access to the manual inflation tube and the gas inflation mechanism. Additional features on the Argus include a universal attachment point on the front of the jacket for items such as an EPERB or VHF. The crutch strap is totally removable and is stowed neatly inside the cover. It is fitted with a quick release buckle on the front. The Baltic Argus is available in black or red and fits a number of sizes from 40kg to 150kg and comes with a 5 year guarantee. CO2 and automatic cylinders should be visually checked every time you use the jacket. New cylinders are available from Baltic stockists or the jackets can be sent to a Baltic Service Centre for a full service check.

The popular Baltic Winner 150 Lifejacket has had an upgrade to include a zip to replace the Velcro fastening. The zip is a special ‘burst zip’ so the automatic deployment of the lifejacket is unaffected. Stronger than Velcro the zip also makes repacking of the jacket quicker and easier. The Winner 150 Zip lifejacket has always been a popular design with its low profile styling and unique soft fleece collar for comfort. It inflates either automatically or by manual gas inflation. Two other special features are the ‘quick release’ openings, one to access the mouth inflation tube and the other the gas inflation mechanism. Additional safety features are a lifting becket, whistle and six retro reflective patches for clear visibility. All Baltic lifejackets are a high visibility colour when inflated whether the red or black cover colour is chosen. The Winner 150 Zip has toggles so that the jacket can be fitted to a sailing jacket or a sprayhood – which is also available from Baltic - can be added retrospectively. The Baltic Winner 150 Zip also comes with an option of an integrated safety harness to meet safety regulations EN1095. The safety harness is easily adjustable and has a non magnetic stainless steel buckle and sturdy D-ring attachment point. A spate of tragedies in the rowing fraternity across Europe has prompted the development of a new and innovative buoyancy aid. As leaders in providing the correct equipment for safety on the water, Baltic were keen to address the problem for rowers where there is either reluctance or it is impractical to wear life jackets. The solution was the Baltic Henley – an ultra lightweight, compact and comfortable CE Approved, 50N rated buoyancy aid. The jacket is made from double layer Lycra® with an inflatable bladder inside that operates either automatically or manually with a quick pull on an inflation head situated on the left shoulder. The stretch Lycra body shell, is slim fitting with a flat front that won’t impede the athlete. The collar is lined with quick drying soft Polartec® fleece to prevent chafing and is fitted with a locking zip vent the jacket or close to form a warm collar. A ‘duck-tail’ ensures that the wearers back remains covered when the athlete is bent forward in the boat and the bottom belt ensures the jacket will not ride up. The design copyrighted Henley Buoyancy Aid passes the requirements set for use by the British Amateur Rowing Association and is currently under evaluation by members of the International Canoe Union. The Henley is simple to use and comfortable. It is available in sizes from Extra Small to Extra Large for persons 50 to 90 plus Kg.
